Learn Yoruba Language Foundation

At Learn Yoruba Language Foundation, we are dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the Yoruba people through language education. Established in 2025 and headquartered in Saki, Oyo State, Nigeria, our foundation serves as a beacon for cultural preservation and linguistic revival.

Our Story

The Learn Yoruba Language Foundation was born from a profound concern for the declining fluency in Yoruba language among younger generations. Our founder, recognizing this cultural loss, assembled a team of dedicated linguists, educators, and cultural advocates to create a solution.

What began as small community language classes has evolved into a comprehensive organization that now reaches thousands of learners across Nigeria and throughout the diaspora. Our growth reflects the deep hunger many have to reconnect with their linguistic heritage.

Our Mission

We strive to reconnect Yoruba people, both in Nigeria and across the diaspora, with their linguistic roots. Many individuals of Yoruba descent find themselves unable to read, write, or speak their native language fluently due to globalization and migration. Our foundation exists to bridge this gap, empowering people to reclaim this essential aspect of their cultural identity.

Vision Icon

Our Vision

We envision a world where the Yoruba language thrives across generations, where children grow up confidently expressing themselves in their ancestral tongue, and where the wisdom embedded in Yoruba linguistic traditions continues to enrich global culture. We see a future where every person of Yoruba descent has access to quality language education, regardless of their location or economic circumstances.

Why It Matters

Language is not merely a tool for communication - it's a vessel carrying centuries of cultural knowledge, values, and identity. As the Yoruba proverb says, "Ede ni aso inu" (Language is the clothing of thought).

When a language fades, we lose more than words-we lose:

  • Ancient wisdom preserved in proverbs and folktales
  • Cultural nuances that cannot be fully translated
  • Traditional knowledge passed down through generations
  • A unique perspective on the human experience
  • An essential component of cultural identity

By preserving and promoting the Yoruba language, we safeguard an irreplaceable cultural treasure for future generations. We believe that linguistic connection strengthens community bonds and provides a sense of belonging in an increasingly globalized world.
